MCBR kicks off the 2008 blading season in May with the Skate of the City. Weekly skate details will be posted here when available. Below info is from 2007.
Unless it is raining, we'll be skating Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. All weekly skates leave from Eastern Market, 2727 Russell.
The Sunday 2:00 p.m. and Monday 6:30 p.m.skates will be beginner recreational group skates. This skate is specifically designed with a mostly flat surface and very little traffic. NSP will block intersections for the safety of the skaters. We generally skate 8 to 10 miles, taking 60 to 90 minutes start to finish. We stop at regular intervals so everyone can catch up and we take a break about halfway through the skate.
Wednesday’s 6:30 p.m.skate is an intermediate skate and you should know how to stop, transition up and down curbs, be able to deal with small hills and bridges. Confidence in your skills is important at this level.
The first Friday in June will kick off a series of first Friday theme skates at 6:30 p.m.. A scavenger hunt and a Polaroid Road Rally are 2 of the first Friday events. These skates are for all levels of skaters. The third Friday is Midnight Madness at 9:00 p.m. This skate is designed for experienced recreational skaters, but is NOT intended as a speedskating workout! Skaters should be capable of skating at between 8 and 12 miles per hour comfortably, and should also be comfortable with stopping quickly, negotiating railroad tracks and other varying degrees of difficulty. We stop and regroup for everybody to catch up and we stop around the halfway point.
June 27 Freedom Festival we will skate before the fireworks.
